Mother-in-law's last Easter

This is one of my latest creations. I did this as an 8 x 8 layout to go into an album recently given to me by my sister-in-law. This is the last photo I have of my wonderful mother-in-law. This was taken in Easter 2004. She died 2 months later. I've just started doing some layouts of my mother-in-law for my kids. I haven't done these before as I was busy doing the latest photos of the kids but then I found a couple of poignant photos and felt I just had to start on these.

I think the reason I hadn't done this photo in a layout before was because I couldn't think of an appropriate title. Then I found this poem and just had to call the layout "Beautiful". Mind you I know she wouldn't of picked that title herself as she wasn't feeling very beautiful at this point. She had been in pain for many years with rheumatoid arthritis and then even more pain due to the tumour for the last 8 months of her life. By the time this photo was taken she'd had her bowel removed and was on liquid morphine daily. Despite that though she was still more concerned about her family than herself. That's why when I saw this poem I knew immediately I had to buy it. The poem cost $1.45 and was printed on a clear sticker so I could add it to a layout of any colour scheme.

It was hard to pick the papers for this layout because she loved all sorts of pattens and colours. Just not ORANGE! So I decided to use my favourite papers from the DCWV (Die Cuts with a View) Range. I painted the chipboard with a making memories paint and then added several layers of a glitter paint by making memories. Gotta love that bling! The rest of the letters of the word 'Beautiful' were made using stickers (a cheap $2 one). The little ribbon embellishment and the flower are all left overs from previous projects. The ribbons are by AW and are called Dottys Craft Shop (they come in a box of 6 different co-ordinating ribbons).... which I love as they're guaranteed to all match! The paper flower was attached using a brad.

Beautiful by Wendy Silva

Your spirit and generosity that you
have towards everyone you meet.
Your strength and courage to withstand obstacles,
never giving in to defeat.

Your compassionate nature that
welcomes everyone in need.
Your example of making good choices that
inspire others to follow in your lead.

Your heart full of love and your
willingness to share.
Your diplomacy and desire to
want everyone treated fair.

Because you leave everyone and every place
better than you found them.

You are Beautiful!

Although this layout isn't really cheap I have saved by using paper from a bulk paper pack, cutting my own chipboard letter and using up scraps from other projects.

Yes, perfect poem for your LO I'd say. TFS these personal LOs - you've done a lovely job of honouring your MIL.
