Update on New Video

Well the new video was too big for YouTube so DH has to edit it into two parts for you all.... sorry about the delay. he only told me this yesterday so I've been blissfully unaware that everyone didn't get the video when I said you did. Sorry about that! Anyway he is now feeling better after having the flu so I think he'll be able to get to it in the next day or two. Not last weekend the weekend before he went to Sydney for what turned out to be four days and went to the Anthony Robbins Seminar and actually did the firewalk! How brave he is... and no blisters or anything! But I think the late nights, early mornings and then plane flight home late at night with the diseased masses and starting work EARLY the next morning played havoc with his ammunity. Usually he's the last one to get a cold or flu especially now that he's drinking Mona Vie. But this little bug was particularly virrulent cause he went down like a sack of spuds for the last week. But by the sound of h...

Cheap Kits a great place to start.

Image
I found this fabulously cheap ($3.00) kit at a discount store recently. I haven't had alot of time to scapbook with the kids on holidays.... but there's always time to shop??? Right? Well this little kit is an album. All the backgrounds of the pages are already done for you so all you have to do is add the photos and embellish! For $3.00 this makes a great gift. Either make it up with photos in it or give it to someone who'd like to try scrapbooking but is put off by the costs.... let them dip their toe in the water as it were. The other thing I love about these kits is they give you a colour palette to work with. So if you're having trouble matching some of the papers from your stash check out the colour palette used by the kit designers. I think I'm going to make a little book of my daughter in all her different dress up outfits.... She loves getting dressed up and can spend hours in the dress up box... so maybe a homage to the dress up box queen???? ...

Sept School Holidays at the beach

Image
It's school holidays at present so I haven't had a lot of spare time to scrap but I have had some fabulous photo opportunities. We live two blocks from the beach so it's really easy to take them down there whenever they're bored with a bucket and spade to make sandcastles. Here are DD and DS getting knocked over by some waves (which are very unusual at Redcliffe!). I can't wait to do a scrapbook of all these beach shots...... I may even get around to trying my clear album idea......

Bionicle Costume for School dance

Image
Here is the costume my DH created for DS for his school dance recently. This was alot of recycing! His school often has dances so the kids can have some fun and we buy a sausage on bread for dinner and watch DS enjoy himself! DD also got dressed up for the event but made me laugh as she spent the entire evening directing one of the other mums (DS's girlfriend's mum) on how to video the event... LOL! DH did a great job! For those of you who don't know what a bionicle is check out the lego website, I can't really explain it.

Castle Album

Image
As I had done a castle book for DD I also needed to do one for DS. So here is the completed album for my son. I'm planning to fill these books with a photo each year and any sayings I think are poignant. These papers came from the DCWV glitter stack which I bought at Big W for $19.95. I added ribbons and flowers and other embellishments from my stack. I have also added a small crotchet piece that my mum had done. I'm using all the little pieces she did more and more in my scrapbooking as I think this is a great place to preserve her work.

Pregnancy Update - Getting Bigger!

Image
Here's a photo of me taken by my daughter (aged 4). I am huge! And carrying very low! I still have 15 weeks to go. The countdown is on. I am not a very good pregnant person! I whinge ALOT! Lucky for me my DH would have a football team if I was up for it so he is very caring and understanding despite my constant complaints. I am currently suffering from Shortness of Breath, Heartburn, Leg Cramps and my back isn't coping well at all. My back is a little unstable at the best of times (ballet and horseridding as a kid). But now it's really not coping well. Lucky for me DH has been home on holidays and so was able to pick up my son from school while I was bedridden. It seems to be because I'm carrying so low. But I am wide open to any and all home remedies you guys have for heartburn and leg cramps! I'm not getting alot of sleep at present as I have to wake up to roll over due to my back and then the heartburn wakes me with acid in my mouth and then my legs cramp up a...

Hide'n'Seek

Image
This layout was really quick! I've been hoarding green and pink things for a while now as my son's school uniform is green and my daughter loves wearing pink. In this case though I had a series of photos showing my daughter playing hide and seek with her friend and I loved how she hid right under his nose. I used a vellum that I had bought in a bulk pack some time ago as my background. Some chipboard letters I bought for $2 (decorated!) and a napkin I loved to fill in the blanks and create a sort of hide and seek effect of the photos.

New Video: How to make Tissue Embellishments

I have finally done another video! I know... about time! Anyway for those of you who are members the link will be emailed to you automatically. For everyone else; at this time the video is only available to members.. Sorry to everyone else. The topic covered this time is how to make your own embellishments using tissues. If you have a topic you'd like covered drop me an email at: cheapscrapbookingideas@yahoo.com and I see what I can do!

Exhausted!

Image
Here's the layout I did using the tape I was telling you about. The above ribbon was white originally and I used ink and glitter paint to decorate it before peeling off the backing and sticking it down. The chipboard flower was decorated using paint and the title was hand cut from patterned paper. The glitter background paper used here was from a pack from Crazy Clarks. Bringing the price per sheet to $0.50c. I've got a back log of photos to try and get through before the baby gets here so I'm going for a very quick and simple style at the moment.

Melissa Sanchez shops at the Dollar Tree Store

You have to check out this video by Melissa Sanchez (previoulsy of Scrapbook Lifestyle). She is going into a dollar tree store and then doing a layout with what she buys. So if you're looking for ideas on how to get creative with cheaper store supplies this is the video for you! http://virtueradionetwork.com/Cropped.htm

Bounty of Cheap Scrapbooking Ranges

I went for a bit of a browse through some of my local shops recently and have to say I'm really surprised with the quality and quantity of cheaper ranges of supplies that are now available. The Warehouse (now Sams Warehouse was owned by Crazy Clarks) now stocks a range by Inique which is both beautiful and cheap. I love that there are so many co-ordinated supplies available now. When I started scrapbooking to do it cheaply you had to make everything yourself! Titles had to be hand cut (I still do this but it's not as necessary anymore as there are cheap decorated chipboard letters available from K-Mart, The Warehouse and many little cheaper stores like Stacks and Dollars and Sense etc). Now the only problem I have is getting rid of all the old supplies to make room for some yummy new stuff! I have a limited amount of space available to me so must use up my supplies before I'm allowing myself to buy new ones (but it's so hard!). One supply that I'm loving at the mo...

Dog Tired Layout - Quick layout

Image
This layout was really quick to complete. By using one large photo and a single patterned background cardstock (from DCWV Glitter Paper Stack) you minimise the work required. I hand cut the title from DCWV Mat Stack (white glitter). I don't like the time it takes to do this but more often than not it is the cheapest way to do your title. I then gave the letters a clean edge by running a felt tipped pen along the edge. Otherwise I felt the white letters weren't very visible on such a busy background. Pop dots were used to attach the title so it had more dimension. The ribbons were stapled to the cardstock used for my journalling which sits behind the photo as hidden journalling. The final touch was a few buttons in the colours of the paper. This layout is very simple and isn't going to win any awards for the design but I think it's appropriate for the photo. I usually like to work with several photos as I'm keeping memories of a particular event, but in ...

Grocery Store Find for my Scrapbooking

Image
This is my latest find! I was walking into my local grocery store and saw this on the ground. It's a protective covering they put around Paw Paw's so they don't get bruised in transit. I thought it looked like really cool lattice work! And as purple is DD's favourite colour I definitely thought it would come in handy. And as it was free I'm even happier! I'm not sure what it's made of. Or if it's acid and lignin free so I'll either keep photos off it or put clear ascetate between the photo and this stuff. But I just can't resist a FREE Scrapbook supply..... Keep an eye out at your local fruit and vegetable department. Who know's what you might find!
