Scrapbooking Made Simple

I did this layout on my retreat weekend and you can see the influence of the class with all the layers! LOL I saved here by stamping the journalling circle and then cutting a larger circle with a circle border punch. I also stamped an image on the layout once and then stamped it again and cut out elements of the stamp and raised them up with 3D foam tape. I also saved by sewing my title. As you can see I haven't used much paper apart from my background. There is one small strip of patterned paper which I punched with a fiskars border punch and a strip of plain paper. So not alot of "stuff" on this layout.... I put all my time into sewing the "Love"!

Here's a layout I did of my kids having a tea party. They love doing this! If they're having a tea party kind of day I'll often go to the kitchen and prepare their lunch in suitable sizes for the tea set so they can have a real tea party. I painted each of these chipboard letters a co-ordinating colour from my background and then covered them in a couple of layers of glitter paint to get that really glittery effect. The tea cup and saucer embellishment is a gold outline sticker applied to acetate and then coloured in with my daughters paints. I then added it to the page using 3D tape for dimension. The teapot button was a find at a scrapbook fair. My favourite part though is the hidden journalling. I simply glued a chipboard piece to my ruled journalling paper and then cut out the open bits. I sometimes like using hidden journalling as it gives the page a more interactive feel and the kids love looking for where the story about these photos is. My background paper was ...

This layout was really quick to complete. By using one large photo and a single patterned background cardstock (from DCWV Glitter Paper Stack) you minimise the work required. I hand cut the title from DCWV Mat Stack (white glitter). I don't like the time it takes to do this but more often than not it is the cheapest way to do your title. I then gave the letters a clean edge by running a felt tipped pen along the edge. Otherwise I felt the white letters weren't very visible on such a busy background. Pop dots were used to attach the title so it had more dimension. The ribbons were stapled to the cardstock used for my journalling which sits behind the photo as hidden journalling. The final touch was a few buttons in the colours of the paper. This layout is very simple and isn't going to win any awards for the design but I think it's appropriate for the photo. I just fiished this princess castle book from Kaiser Craft for DD. I used DCWV Paper Stack Glitter Papers for the project. I wanted to make this different as most of the examples I've seen on this project are done in a pretty pink and green. So I thought black silver white and purple would be different. I'm going to fill this with photos of DD at different ages and different sayings I'd like her to remember. Next project will be DS's castle. My challenge was to only use items from my stash. This is a great way to use up excess supplies and also makes you stretch your creativity a bit.

This layout is another 8 x 8 layout I have done. This is a photo of my daughter sleeping on her daddy as a baby. I used my alphabet punches to cut out the letters of the words "Sleeping Beauty" though the S and the B were done with chipboard. I love using easy replenishable methods like these to do my titles. Next I used a piece of wool to decorate down one side and then made ribbon flowers to decorate that border. Along that side of the photo I used a brass template to kindy glitz this shape onto the photo. I used my blade to cut out some of the paper so that I could tuck my photo in behind this.... like the paper is hugging my baby. A simple sticker with a saying on it added the final touch.

This is one of my latest creations. I did this as an 8 x 8 layout to go into an album recently given to me by my sister-in-law. This is the last photo I have of my wonderful mother-in-law. This was taken in Easter 2004. She died 2 months later. I've just started doing some layouts of my mother-in-law for my kids. I haven't done these before as I was busy doing the latest photos of the kids but then I found a couple of poignant photos and felt I just had to start on these. I think the reason I hadn't done this photo in a layout before was because I couldn't think of an appropriate title. Then I found this poem and just had to call the layout "Beautiful". Mind you I know she wouldn't of picked that title herself as she wasn't feeling very beautiful at this point. She had been in pain for many years with rheumatoid arthritis and then even more pain due to the tumour for the last 8 months of her life. By the time this photo was taken she'd had her bo...

I finished this OTP project of a small suitcase for Nana over the Easter Break. This is for her to take to her Sewing and Quilting Classes. She can fill it with material and stuff and take it along with her. I did very little decoration to the outside of the suitcase as I felt it had a really great aged feel. Just adding the stamping a few paper cut out flowers and the ribbons and the chipboard letters. This project cost me $3.50. I got the suitcase for free from my Dad's house, the chipboard was free from the back of notebooks, The ribbons are left overs from other projects as is the paper. So a very miserly renovation! I think simple is often best when doing a present for someone else. I used a co-ordinating range of pink and brown papers to cover the chipboard which was left over from my book about me. I did step outside the scrapbooking arena when choosing my adhesive......lol..... I actually used liquid nails...... well I wanted to make sure those suckers were gonna stay put A...
