Know anything about Amnio's?

Hi Everyone,

Well I'm going to go off topic a little today cause I'm officially freaking out and I'm hoping some of you can give me some advice. I've had a nuchal translucency scan and they have decided that I need to have an amniocentisis as I am in a very high risk group.

So my question is have you had one? Do you know anyone who has had one? Did it hurt much?

I'm not looking forward to this at all! At this stage it looks like I'll be having the test not next week the week after. So any advice or tips you have to share with me would be greatly appreciated!

This is a tough one Kyra because it is such a personal choice. You probably have already but if it was me I'd be asking heaps of questions, like what do they mean by you are in a very high risk group? I know that they test for disability (3 main ones I think). What are the risks with the test etc and would it make any difference to your decision? (a question not a judgement). I'd chat to the doctor and do a Google search and be as informed as possible....like I said very personal one.

I know what you mean. The main reason I consented was because the risk of miscarriage from the test is low and not substantiated and tests so far place me at a one in six chance of foetal aneuploidy. One of the tests they've done shows I'm at extra risk of foetal loss, growth restriction, preterm birth, pre-eclampsia and placental abruption.

I know from my time in x-ray that there are certain conditions that the foetus will not continue to birth from. So I'm looking to be informed. Not sure what I'll do with the information yet.... That's for another FREAK OUT!

I googled amnio's and got nothing good but then my DH found a site with women discussing their experiences and most of them say the test is uncomfortable not painful? Don't know if I believe that yet..... a big needle through the stomach sounds painful!

I had an amnio about 8-1/2 years ago and I felt nothing at all except a little pressure going in, definitely less pain than a flu shot due to a lack of nerve endings in the area. DH made me nervous though because he was watching and freaking out. He said the needle looked like it was piercing the baby, but the doctor said it was not, only that the screen was 2-D and not 3-D. I had it after a test showed an extra chromosome in the placenta, but my baby came out fine.

Cardstock only Layouts

After looking at the cost of a layout I'm going to challenge myself to do some cardstock only layouts (not for my wedding though). Do you think you could manage it? Well I'm not sure but I'm gonna give it a go. But it does get a little ridiculous the costs, con't you think? So I'm going to challenge myself to do a layout using cardstock and patterned paper only! Of course not having a cricuit or sizzix or anything this will mean hand cutting my title....... painstaking... BUT I think it'll be a challenge artistically too. These layouts were done by Deb of Toowoomba and you can see how she's used her paper and cardstock to acentuate her photo's theme.... I especially love the dolphin! Coffee Mugs are Finished

Here are the digi scrapped coffee mugs I told you about a few posts back. They're back from the "printer". These were really easy to do. I first created my document that I was digi scrapping and I made the size of the document 4" x 6'" (a standard photo). I then decorated that page using my digital scrapbooking papers and embellishments and finally added the photos. I then went to my local photo lab and uploaded these images to their software and chose to have them printed on mugs. (I chose the stretch option which stretches the image around the mug. So then I had to resize the image to get all my decorations on the mug). And here they are! It only took them a week to print them! So if you're thinking of doing this for a christmas present I think you may just get it back in time...... but check with your photo lab to make sure they could get it back to you before Christmas. I'm happy with the result..... hope the recipients will be too?

Digiscrap a PhotoBook when on special!

Have you ever wondered what to do with all that beautiful digitally scrapbooked work? Well you could print a photo book. I save all my pages up and then when there's a special on (Like the recent $9.95 for a 19 page book at Big W) I go in and get them printed. This way I have a hard copy of my work to show people and I get the pages printed very cheaply... that's around 52 cents per page. Just remember though the specials are more commonly done for the smaller books 8 x 8 etc. So when doing your layouts keep that in mind.
